Charged with Theft in Utah?
Robbery, Burglary and Shoplifting.
Interfering with another person's property, with the intention of stealing, is theft. 'Theft' is a broad term for all crimes in which a person intentionally and fraudulently takes the property of another without permission or consent. Simply put, theft describes the act of stealing.
Although robbery (stealing by force), burglary (stealing by entering illegally), and embezzlement (stealing from an employer) are all commonly thought of as theft, they are set apart from theft by the means and methods used, and are classified separately in criminal charges and statutory punishments.
